Family Decision Wheel

Most household arguments are not really disagreements — they are turn-taking problems. Who goes first, who chose last time, whose turn it is to load the dishwasher, why the same person always gets the good seat in the car. A wheel settles those without a parent having to be the villain, and children accept it far more readily than a decision handed down, because they can watch it being made.

Options

Fill it with chores, dinner ideas, weekend activities, bedtime stories, or everyone's names. Add "x2" behind an option if it should come up more often — useful for chores that need doing twice a week. Remove each option as it is used so the week works through everything rather than landing on pasta four nights running. The warm terracotta and clay palette is friendly without being cartoonish, and it works just as well on a phone at the kitchen table as on the TV. Sound and confetti can be switched off in Customize if the excitement is counterproductive at bedtime.

How to use it

  1. Add chores, meals, activities, or everyone's names.
  2. Spin together — tapping the wheel works on any device.
  3. Remove each option so the week does not repeat itself.
  4. Turn off sound in Customize for calmer evenings.

Good for

  • Assigning chores without an argument
  • Deciding tonight's dinner
  • Picking the weekend activity
  • Choosing the bedtime story
  • Settling whose turn it is to go first

Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for young children?

Yes. Tapping the wheel spins it, and the effects can be toned down or switched off in Customize.

Can some chores come up more often?

Add "x2" after an option and it takes a bigger slice of the wheel.

Can we save our list?

The full VarietyWheel app saves wheels in your browser so your chore list is there next time.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your wheels and your list are stored locally in your own browser and are never uploaded to our servers. The site stays free through third-party ads such as Google AdSense, which may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies — see our Privacy Policy for details.

Is the wheel truly random?

Yes. Every spin uses your browser's built-in cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not the weaker Math.random(). The winner is picked fairly in proportion to each entry's slice size, and each result is independent of previous spins.
